For New Castle fans, why & whendid you feel NC began to lose its great image internationally and in England?

I'm a New Castle admirer from South America, and I'm very nostalgic when I compare the wonderful team of the second half of the 90s decade and this current team. I guess that AMONG MANY bad decisions, the one of selling Faustino Asprilla (one of the 3 superb strikers of NC) back to Parma made the team's attack an average one. The trio complemented each other so perfect that no defense in Europe could stop them. Then gradually season after season NC has lost importance and I can't believe that situation.
