What personal characteristics are common in people who conduct music?

I'm looking for a typical or at least plausible personality profile. Are the qualities generally ociated with performers the same as for conductors? I ume conducting requires more leadership skill and less desire for the spotlight. Is it conceivable that a person who knows and loves music but is not cut out to be a performer, and who does not have a dominant personality but prefers to support others in artistic endeavors, would be a conductor?
